My kids think that I have always been “the pajama lady”. It is kind of funny. I did not set out in life to become “the pajama lady”, but that is how it has turned out. And, to be honest, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love what I do. I love searching for new products at trade shows. I love hearing from our customers. I love working on our website.
I didn’t always think that I would be “the pajama lady”. I went to graduate school for managing non-profit organizations. I worked for a number of great organizations in my younger days. Then something horrible happened — I realized that I was about to get laid off. If you have ever had this happen to you, you understand what a terrible feeling this is. It also could not have been worse timing. I had just come back from maternity leave. My son (my first child) was only three months old. So there I was – new baby, bills to pay, and close to losing my job. It was not a good situation.
My reaction was to want to take control of my own destiny. I decided that I wanted to start my own business and control my own fate from then on. But, I did not have a grand plan. I did not have a lot of money. But, I did have ten years of marketing experience for non-profits, so I did have something. I also had a lot of determination. I also had (and still have – thank God) a very supportive husband who is willing to put up with my craziness, organize warehouses, ship holiday packages, and much more.
So where did we start? We found some merchandise on one of the online liquidation sites. I don’t even remember which one. It was a bunch of novelty boxer shorts for men. We put them up on eBay. They sold like hotcakes. We couldn’t believe it. We kept buying more. Eventually the supplier asked us if we wanted to try some flannel pajamas that he got in. I said yes. That is how the whole pajama business started. I still remember those flannel pajamas. They were blue with multi colored polka dots. My husband and I sold them out a spare room in our house in the metropolis of Moose, WY.
That is another weird piece of our story. My husband’s job takes us to some fairly remote locations. In the early days our business was located in a spare room of our house in Moose, WY. In then moved to our garage at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. In 2004, we moved to Fort Mohave, AZ as we needed our first commercial space. We are now on our third commercial building and are located in beautiful Flagstaff, AZ.
In 2002, we launched CrazyforBargains.com. CrazyforBargains.com features fun pajamas, bath robes, boxer shorts, and slippers. We sell products for men, women, kids, toddlers, and infants. Customer favorites include our selections of footed pajamas, animal slippers, kids bath robes, and flannel pajamas.
We aim to provide our customers with a quality product at a reasonable price. We strive to treat our customers the way that we would want to be treated if we were purchasing something from an online store. We understand that our customers want to receive their purchases quickly. We want our customers to be delighted with their purchases.
I am a mom too. I know how much little boys love superhero pajamas. (Treasure those years. They go by too quickly!) I know how much little girls love princess nightgowns. (The same advice applies here. My kids are getting big.) I want your kids’ jammies to be just perfect. I want all of your family’s pajamas and slippers to be perfect. This is what we do. I guess that is why my kids call me “the pajama lady”.
